About Us
The Iowa City Community School District Foundation was founded in November of 1981 as a private non-profit, 501(c)3 corporation in response to significant budget cuts the district was required to make due to declining revenues. The Foundation purchased the first Apple II Plus computer for the district after six months of fundraising.

Since that time the ICCSD Foundation has raised more than $3.5 million for the school district for a wide range of projects including a $400,000 campaign in 1995 entitled School Net. The campaign conducted in collaboration with ACT and the Chamber of Commerce provided a district wide computer network linking all of the schools and giving the district Internet access.

In December of 2007, the ICCSD Foundation wrapped up its largest ever fundraising effort - the 25th Anniversary Campaign. Through many generous gifts from staff, parents, community members and businesses the Foundation was able to raise over $1.3 million to benefit the Iowa City Community School District. The Foundation's board of directors continues to work with the school district staff and administrators to investigate ways in which they can make an impact on the education of the children of the community.

Each year the ICCSD Foundation raises unrestricted dollars in support of the Excellence Fund. Grants to the school district from the Excellence Fund support a variety of projects and programs throughout the district that enhance student learning.
