Shine Awards

The Iowa City Community School District Shine Award honors employees who go above and beyond for the students and schools in our community. Honorees positively influence, inspire, and leave a lasting impact in the work that they do every day, helping to fulfill the overall District mission.

Nominations can be submitted by students, parents, District employees, businesses, or community members by completing the nomination found HERE.

District employees will be selected and honored throughout the school year to receive this prestigious honor.

Grow our Own

Sponsored by GreenState Credit Union

In partnership with the Foundation for the ICCSD and GreenState Credit Union, the Iowa City Community School District is proud to announce the Grow-Our-Own (GOO) program. The Grow Our Own program is designed to expand our cadre of teachers of color by focusing on current District support staff that have a desire to move in to a teaching position. Participants in the program will be provided tuition support through a cost-sharing program and a guaranteed teaching position within the District following their graduation. Students will benefit from experiencing a diverse teaching population that is reflective of the students we serve and of this community.

Silver Salute

The annual Silver Salute celebration, held in May, recognizes staff members celebrating 25 years of service and/or those who are retiring from the District. This special program allows the honorees to include family and friends and take time to celebrate such a momentous achievement.
